Planning Your Wedding

When you have accepted your marriage proposal you will find that you are about to embark on a very busy time in your life. Most weddings today are planned 9 months to 1 year in advance. This is because you really do require this much time to plan everything and have it just the way you have always dreamed.

Pick a Date

The first thing you must do is pick a date. Do you want a spring wedding? Alternatively, perhaps a winter wedding? Whichever it is, that is the first decision you have to make before deciding on anything else. You may be surprised to discover that you will have to pick more than one date. Halls and churches are generally booked far in advance and your first choice may not be available.

What King of Wedding

Once you have your date you need to decide what kind of wedding you would like. Do you want a large formal wedding? On the other hand, something simple and down to earth? Daytime or nighttime? You must make these general decisions before you can get down to the nitty gritty and start planning your particulars.

Guest List

The next thing to do is to start a guest list so you can get an idea of how large a church and hall you will require. You will need to plan for adequate space for all of your guests. Cost can be a factor here, but if not, then go for the limit--invite everyone!

Catering

Once you have decided on the basics, you can move on to the particulars. The next step should be in finding a caterer. They are generally booked far in advance so you should do this as quickly as possible to guarantee your date.

Many people today are opting for a buffet style dinner this allows for more choices and is much less expensive than a sit down dinner that is served out of the kitchen. With a buffet, you can still have elegance.

You should have a food budget in mind before you get started on your menu planning with the help of your caterer. The caterer is one of the most expensive parts of a wedding and you will want to stay within your budget.

Once you have the main parts of your magical day planned you have to work on the details like flowers, music, colors, decorations and a host of other things that will crop up along the way.

The Dress

Now to the dress. What young girl has not dreamed of her wedding dress? You probably have an idea of what you would like and as you go out and start exploring you will be sure to find other things as well. Your dress should be your ultimate personality statement. It should reflect who you are and what your dreams are. It is the one time in your life that you can dress like a princess if that is what you desire. Your wedding dress may be the most enjoyable part of planning your wedding.
