Legal Matters Pertaining to a Wedding

When you set the wedding date, you are heading down a road that will join the two of you forever. Legal matters pertaining to a marriage should never be overlooked or forgotten.

There are some legal things that you must do before you can get marry and there is some legal stuff that you may want to take care of before you set the date. Some of the things you should discuss before the wedding are prenuptials and the marriage license. You may also need to discuss any credit problems that will concern both of you once you say, "I do."

Licenses

The marriage license is easy to obtain or is it? If you were married before, you will need a copy of your divorce degree. If you have lost it, you will need to contact the county where the divorce took place and request a copy. For instance, if you live in Wisconsin and were divorced thirteen years ago in California, plan on at least six months before you finally receive a copy. You may have to request of someone in that county to help you. The process in some counties is horribly slow and can delay even a planned wedding.

You will also need a copy of your birth certificate. Some states will require a blood test, but this far less common now than it used to be years ago. If you are a foreign immigrant, you may need to file other legal papers before obtaining a license. If you are planning a wedding, contact the clerk's office to see what you need to obtain a license.

Prenuptials

If you plan to have a prenuptial, you should take care of this months before the wedding. This way you will both understand what is contained within this legal document and understand how it affects each of you. You are going to become on when you unite in marriage and you do not want any misunderstandings right before the wedding.

Joining Together as One

You will be one and in most cases, you will become one with credit and debts. What's yours is hers and what's hers is yours. This is important for every couple to understand. If you have any concerns about anything material or otherwise, you should handle any issues before your wedding day. You must enter into a marriage knowing what you are in store for before the date. Take any legal actions you need to make sure each of you is protected from any issues that may arise as you join together as one.

Make sure that you take all the necessary steps to ensure that your wedding day is joyous. Make sure you have the marriage license in time and that nothing else will stand in your way. Legal issues or anything else for that matter should never cloud your wedding day. Take the steps you need long before the day to settle everything. Make sure you enjoy every detail of your special day and have a wonderful life together.
