Jeffrey Nelson fulfilled a years-old dream by opening his first nonfranchise men’s formal wear location, The Tux Shop, at 33423 S. Woodward Ave. in Birmingham. The new shop opened its doors Jan. 3 and features the latest in men’s tuxedos, formal wear, accessories and restaurant apparel. Nelson has been in the tuxedo business for 17 years, six as an owner. The store employs three to five formalwear specialists, depending on the time of year. The store opened to a terrific reception, and sales for Auto Show Charity Preview night were up from 2009 and 2010. Nelson is already gearing up for wedding season by participating in wedding shows hosted by Whimsical Occasions.
